Cover of Ryan Adams "Let It Ride"
As I said in the video, it was the last day of June, and I had to post a video to keep my vow of at least one video per month. I had written up notes for an instructional video. "Fingerpicking: The Bare Minimum That Will Make You Happy." But I couldn't get into it.
A while back a friend gave me a mini-looper. It wouldn't work. I was frustrated and wanted to throw it in the trash. I left to run an errand. This song played. "Twenty-seven years of nothing but failures and promises that I couldn't keep" jumped out at me. My lack of interest in the looper seemed very much like yet another broken promise.
Anyway, I came back home, figured out the problem with the mini-looper (bad battery in my gu...

The point of the True Detective story was that Townes Van Zandt could sing a lot better than I'd ever given him credit for. Probably because I'd mostly listened to his live albums. For obvious reasons, I gravitate toward less than stellar singers. Thanks, Pep. The final verse just wouldn't come to me on "The Road." I stalled and stalled, but I couldn't recall them. I like to make video records of songs I've learned, but it's so hard to do them "right," and they are never as good as I wish they could be, so I've grown fond of these "start the camera and see what I get" videos. They are rough and mistake-filled, but they are more fun to make and I at least get a video posted once in a while. There are two more days of this "music festival," so stay tuned, haha! Take care.

I think it's just the little riff part I demonstrated combined with generic finger-picking. By generic finger-picking, I mean a typical finger-picking pattern, with the thumb alternating between the 5 and 4 strings (or 6 and 4), with a treble note in between. Bass on 5, treble, bass on 4, treble, etc. It's nice song, but it's been a while and I don't remember! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Wish I'd been more explicit at the time.

Thank you. It's been a few years, so I can't remember for sure, but I want to say it was in Acoustic Guitar magazine... I just searched online and was able to verify! Jan/Feb 1995. Lyle is on the cover in front of a blue background. You can grab a copy on eBay for about $15, it looks like. I just now played around with it a little, and while I don't remember all the notes, I can say it is G, with quick changes to C, then right back to G. That happens about 3 times, then you go to a D with F# in the bass. The C may use just two fingers, with the 4th string open instead of fretted. And the G seems to be just two notes fretted, the F# at 2nd fret, 6th string, and the D on the second string. I remember the tab as being quite good, and I think I played it true to how it was tabbed. If you really like the song a lot, I'd go the eBay route. Good luck!
